Gender in MotionAlmås, Elsa and Esben Esther Pirelli Benestad: Kjønn i bevegelse
While gender is pretty widespread, some genders are more widespread than others. This is a book about unusual, but still familiar, genders. The book gives an account of traditional and recent theories about gender. The authors' primary fields of study are medicine, psychology and sexology but they also engage with the current debates within the feminist tradition and Queer Theory (a term encompassing gay, bisexual, and transsexual/transgender studies)
The first part of the book addresses the diversity of bodily sexes in existence, and how they arise. The next part deals with subjective experience, personal articulation and the way in which different paradigms relate to "gender understanding" through the ages. In the final part of the book the authors share their own experiences and set out their personal theoretical approach.
The book is aimed mainly at students in medicine, psychology, health and social studies, but doctors, sexologists, psychologists, educationalists and school counsellors will also benefit from the book.
