Ådland, Øyvind: Konfliktritt

Øyvind Ådland’s collection of short stories is a quite unequalled debut work in Norwegian prose. The stories are filled with catastrophe and humour and open up to a madly confusing, but also strangely self-evident world. Rooted in the reality of Norwegian countryside, the stories follow their own volatile laws when strange characters appear on the arena. The elements are blended depending on necessity and mood, and bring forth a language that definitely deviates from normality. This is bubbly surrealism that breathes new life into a language which is about to be emptied: the bureaucrat and tabloid language.
