Horns for Our Adornment

Sandemose, Aksel: Vi pynter oss med horn

Horns for Our Adornment is the story about six men on a small sail boat from Bergen. Six men without women. It is early summer 1914. The schooner Fulton is on its way to Iceland and then to New Foundland.

The sailors’ conversations are marked by coarseness and boasting. The minister Johannes, who is with them, is constantly beaten up. But we also get an insight into the inner contradictions in each and every one of the men on board. They all carry their secrets, and they all have more sympathetic characteristics than what is expressed through their mouths and their muscles.
