A Fugitive Crosses His Tracks

Sandemose, Aksel: En flyktning krysser sitt spor

When first published in 1933, A Fugitive Crosses His Tracks was a literary sensation. Rarely had one seen such a strong proximity between an author and his topic, and the literary form, with its montage technique and its teeming abundance of fates and situations, was highly innovative. The novel was re-published in 1955, highly expanded and considerably changed. In this first edition the rage is more powerful, the narrator more bitter in his protest against the "tall poppy syndrome".
