Grøntvedt, Nina Elisabeth
Author and illustrator Nina E. Grøntvedt is from Trondheim, Norway. She lived one year in Texas, USA, as a teen, and then six years in Southampton, England, in her twenties. Her debut as a writer was with the picture book The Little Hero in 2006. The sequel, The Little Hero and the Cat Kidnapper was published in 2008.
Grøntvedt has studied graphic design and has a bachelor’s degree in illustration from Southampton Solent University, England. She has also completed a two-year course in creative writing and children’s and youth literature, at the Norwegian Institute of Children’s Literature.
Since 2009, Grøntvedt has been writing full-time. She travels a lot, visiting school children and performing at book fairs and literary festivals in Norway, as well as abroad. In the last year she has met many of her readers (of all ages) in Norway, Sweden, Russia and Germany.
Grøntvedt achieved her international breakthrough with the novel Hey it’s me!, published in 2010. This fictional diary has been compared to the Diaries of Adrian Mole, and is somewhat similar in layout to the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Dork Diaries, although Grøntvedt’s novel gives the impression that the story is actually written, told and illustrated by the protagonist of the story herself, a 12-year-old Norwegian girl.
The sequel, Absolutely unkissed, picks up where the first book left off. New diary, new love interests, new problems! Four books are planned in this series, one for each season of the year. Around 10 000 copies are printed in Norwegian of each of the first two books (May 2013).
